Alexis R. Narvaez-Rojas, MD, FSSO, is a radiation oncology chief resident (2026–2028) at Maimonides Medical Center / SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, New York. He is also Society of Surgical Oncology–accredited breast surgical oncology fellowship–trained at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial and a general surgeon by earlier training.
His path has taken him from medical school and surgical residency in Nicaragua, through therapeutic endoscopy training in Cuba, to oncology work in the United States. He came to radiation oncology after repeatedly seeing the same gap: patients standing between surgeons and radiation oncologists who speak related but incomplete languages.
He focuses especially on breast cancer, brachytherapy, stereotactic techniques, adaptive radiation, and radiopharmaceuticals, while continuing collaborative work in oncoplastic surgery and multidisciplinary care.
Research and service keep him grounded; he has contributed to more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters spanning surgical oncology, radiation oncology, meta-research, and global surgical topics.
He currently serves as President of the Residents, Attendings and Fellows Council for Project IMG, Clinical AI Leader Fellow at Doximity, and on several resident/fellow committees with ASTRO/ARRO, ACRO, and The Radiosurgery Society. He also remains International Faculty in Surgical Oncology at Hospital Militar Escuela “Alejandro Davila Bolaños” in Managua. These roles are privileges that allow him to learn from colleagues and give something back, especially to international medical graduates and trainees navigating similar roads.
Fluent in Spanish (native), English, and conversational Russian, he stays disciplined with movement and reading, habits that help him remain present for patients and for the long work of becoming a better physician.
On Roon, to listen, share, ask better questions, and collaborate with colleagues who care about thoughtful, evidence-based, patient-centered oncology.
